The Drop: Yerba mate brand Mateina is entering the instant beverage market with Yerba Sticks, a convenient powder format of its signature drink that includes electrolytes for enhanced hydration.
Taking inspiration from Brazil’s mate gelado (iced mate), Mateina’s Yerba Sticks deliver the authentic yerba mate experience in a travel-friendly format. Each stick packs 100mg of caffeine from organic yerba mate, along with a hydration-boosting blend of sea salt, potassium, and magnesium.
The sticks come in two citrus varieties: lemon lime and mandarin. Both flavors are sweetened with a touch of stevia and contain zero sugar, staying true to Mateina’s clean ingredient philosophy. The products are certified organic, gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO.
“Finally, a yerba mate drink that I can bring on a plane or a hike,” says CEO and co-founder Nicolas Beaupré.
Founded in Montreal in 2017 by Beaupré and Elodie Simard, Mateina grew from Beaupré’s passion for yerba mate, which began during a language immersion trip to Chile in 2016. The brand launched in the US in January 2024 with backing from Stanford neurobiology professor and Huberman Lab podcast host Andrew Huberman.
Yerba Sticks are available now on drinkmateina.com, priced at $25 USD for 15 sticks in the US and $33 CAD for 15 sticks in Canada.
