R.A.D. is stepping into running with its first super trainer, the UFO — a dual-foam performance shoe designed to help runners log more miles with less fatigue. The UFO launches today, October 16, at select retailers and October 23 online for $200.
For the past two years, the brand’s Running Exploration Department (REDs) has been developing R.A.D.’s entry into running. Led by Blue Benadum, a former Nike Sports Specialist and co-founder of The Speed Project, the team designed the UFO to handle long runs, progression sessions, and threshold work.
At the center of the shoe is SUPEFOAM™, a dual-density PEBA blend midsole. The softer top layer cushions each step, while the firmer bottom layer returns energy for a more efficient stride. In testing by Heeluxe, the foam maintained its rebound properties even after 300 miles.
A flowing rocker geometry and sculpted heel bevel help runners move easily through each phase of their stride, while an adaptive lacing system allows for personalized tension and fit.
A zonal upper design increases airflow over the toes, and the flexible construction adapts comfortably to different foot shapes.
“We wanted to create a shoe that helps serious runners take their training to the next level by allowing them to run more,” says Benadum. “The cushioning reduces fatigue over distance, while the geometry and dual-foam midsole deliver smooth transitions at every pace.”
