On’s Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 turns old running shoes into new ones

The performance trainer features a Speedboard made from 99.5% recycled materials.

On’s new Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 puts recycled materials to work. It’s Speedboard — the flexible plate that gives On shoes their trademark spring — is made almost entirely from retired Cloudneo models and leftover manufacturing scraps.

The latest step in On’s circularity journey

The Cyclon 1.1 marks three years of progress since On introduced its Cyclon subscription program in 2022, inviting runners to return worn-out pairs for recycling. Each returned shoe feeds material back into the next generation, closing the loop rather than adding to landfills.

The Speedboard® is created from recycled shoes and leftover materials from the manufacturing process.

The shoe’s Speedboard (the plate that gives On shoes their signature snap) is composed of 99.5% recycled materials. That includes materials from returned Cloudneo shoes and leftover bits from the manufacturing process.

“We’ve learned immensely throughout this process,” says Serena Bonomi, Head of Circularity at On. “From understanding consumer behavior and collection logistics to exploring recycling limitations and potentials.”

Same performance, smaller footprint

Despite its near-fully recycled Speedboard, the Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 keeps the responsive ride and neutral stability of the original model. The update proves that sustainability and performance can share the same stride.

Where to get it

The Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 is a limited release available exclusively to Cyclon program subscribers in the USA, Canada, the EU, Switzerland, and the UK at on.com.
