Canyon Ranch is opening a 600-acre wellness resort in Austin

The new wellness destination combines Texas’ largest spa, a 27,000-square-foot fitness center, health and performance services, and 35+ daily activities.

Canyon Ranch is bringing its destination wellness model to Texas on a much bigger scale.

Opening October 15, Canyon Ranch Austin sits on more than 600 acres overlooking Lake Travis in Spicewood, outside Austin. The property combines a 141-room resort with fitness, recovery, health services, outdoor programming, and a private residential community.

A wellness resort built at scale

At the center of the property is a 40,000-square-foot spa, which Canyon Ranch says is the largest in Texas. It includes 37 treatment rooms alongside pools, therapy tubs, lounges, and salon services.

Canyon Ranch Austin spans more than 600 acres in Texas Hill Country near Lake Travis.

Fitness gets its own sizable footprint. The Barn is a 27,000-square-foot facility with movement studios, a yoga deck, training center, recovery lab, and outdoor workout lawn. Guests also have access to swimming, outdoor activities, and 35+ optional activities each day.

There’s also CR Vitality, a dedicated recovery space inside The Barn with options including red light therapy, compression and percussion tools, neurostimulation, and electrical stimulation.

Health goes beyond the spa

Canyon Ranch is also pushing further into the health side of wellness.

The property includes health and performance services alongside its fitness and recovery offerings, and Canyon Ranch says Austin will be the first resort in the world with a dedicated Women’s Wellness practice. Its Women’s Wellness Collective brings together care, education, testing, and wellness services designed around different stages of women’s lives.

That mix makes the new Austin location less about adding a nice gym and spa to a hotel and more about building the trip itself around health.

Wellness travel gets more immersive

It’s part of a broader shift we’ve been tracking in wellness travel. Trips are increasingly being built around movement, recovery, sleep, and time outdoors rather than treating wellness as an amenity you squeeze in between everything else.

We’ve also seen a similar idea emerge with countryside wellness clubs and extended-stay properties, where acreage, nature, fitness, recovery, food, and community all become part of the experience. Canyon Ranch Austin takes that model even further by adding health and performance services into the same environment.
