The gap between clinical nutrition advice and what’s available on your lunch break is closing. Today, Sweetgreen launched a nationwide collaboration with Function Health founder and functional medicine physician Dr. Mark Hyman.
While most fast-casual chains focus on macronutrients (high protein, low carb), this menu is engineered for micronutrients — specifically aiming to address common deficiencies like magnesium, iron, and omega-3s.
The collaboration applies Hyman’s “Food is Information” philosophy to the assembly line. The goal isn’t just calorie control; it is blood sugar management and inflammation reduction. The entire menu maintains Sweetgreen’s commitment to being seed-oil-free — a major sticking point for the health-conscious demographic Function serves.
The launch includes five functional bowls, each targeting a specific physiological outcome:
“Food is a powerful signal we send to our bodies. It’s information,” says Hyman. “Every ingredient on this menu was thoughtfully selected based on nutrient principles, and decades of medical insight, with a deep respect for real ingredients.
The partnership extends into Sweetgreen’s app, where ingredient explainers written by Hyman link nutrition choices to biological function. Rewards members also get credit toward a Function Health membership, bridging what you eat with what shows up in your lab work.
The Sweetgreen x Function menu is available nationwide starting today, January 6.
