Puresport just launched its new Energy Gels, designed to simplify endurance fueling for the 90% of runners who aren’t elite athletes but still want to perform their best. Developed with performance nutritionist Dr. Sam Impey, each gel delivers 30 grams of carbohydrates every 30 minutes — a simple, evidence-based formula that takes the confusion out of mid-run fueling.

If you’ve ever stood in a running store squinting at labels that mention “isotonic” or “hydrogel,” you’re not alone. The endurance nutrition category has gotten overly complicated. And according to Dr. Impey, that confusion has real consequences.
“Most people just don’t know when or if they should take gels, as there’s no clear guidance,” he explains. “The result? Runners are either under-fueled or completely guessing about what their bodies actually need.”
When running at moderate to high intensity, glycogen stores start to deplete around the 90-minute mark — when most runners “hit the wall.” Research shows that taking in about 60 grams of carbohydrates per hour can help avoid that crash, yet most gels on the market only deliver 20–22 grams per sachet.
To validate its formula, Puresport partnered with ExoAnalytics to conduct carbohydrate absoportion testing with runners of all levels — from beginners to elites. The results confirmed that 60g of carbs per hour is the optimal target for performance and endurance.
Each gel uses a dual-carb blend of glucose and fructose for smoother absorption and comes in natural Berry and Orange flavors. The product is also Informed Sport certified, offering peace of mind for athletes who care about ingredient integrity.
In trials with more than 500 runners, 90% loved the taste, 90% said the texture was just right, and 95% reported zero gut issues — a key metric when you’re 18 miles into a marathon.
“The gels category has become way too complicated,” says Puresport CEO Dan Temm. “For years, runners have been overloaded with jargon, calculators, and conflicting advice. One gel every 30 minutes. Simple as that.”
Puresport Energy Gels are available now for £14 (6-pack), or £24 (12-pack) at puresport.co and select retailers.
