Most full saunas require a dedicated room, putting them out of reach for most homes regardless of budget. KLAFS, a German brand that’s been building saunas since 1928, designed the S1 around that problem. Now available in the US, it’s part of a broader shift toward home wellness products designed to fit the spaces people actually live in.
The S1’s key feature is its retractable mechanism: in its compressed state, the unit takes up roughly the space of a large bookcase. When you’re ready to use it, the sauna extends outward to full size—three times that size—at the push of a button.

Once open, it runs as a full sauna with insulated walls and 8mm glass panels. KLAFS’ SANARIUM climate control system offers five modes covering Finnish-style dry heat, soft steam, and a range of settings in between, with temperatures reaching up to 210°F. Humidity and ambiance are adjustable from the same interface.
Exterior finishes are matte black or walnut, both with a walnut interior.
