Nike’s new Running Is Mental collection leans into something most runners already know: the sport lives between your ears. The three-shoe lineup—Alphafly 3, Pegasus Premium, and Vomero Plus—arrives in muted platinum, silver, and grey colorways, treating focus and calm as part of the performance equation.
Each pair comes with a metallic incense holder. Unusual for performance footwear, but for a brand that’s been studying how recovery affects athletic performance for years, it’s just the next layer in Nike’s broader push to treat mental recovery as part of training.

Nike Pegasus Running is Mental edition.
The standout is the Pegasus Premium, Nike’s more cushioned alternative to the standard Pegasus, now refreshed in soft white, cream, and grey. It features a full-length Air unit for smoother heel-to-toe transitions, a sculpted heel built to absorb impact, and a layered upper that blends engineered mesh with synthetic overlays. A soft grey Swoosh keeps things understated, while a heat-mapped foot graphic on bright blue foam insoles drives the theme home.
The Vomero Plus ($190) and Alphafly 3 ($305) round out the collection in the same calming palette, giving runners options across daily training and race day. Each pair carries the phrase “Running Is Mental” and insoles printed with: “Designed for athletes who seek inner peace while maintaining speed.”
Nike’s Mind Science Department has been studying how sensory input affects focus and mental state in athletes, and the brand’s recent Mind footwear launch built neuroscience-informed tech directly into shoe design. Running Is Mental takes a different approach to the same philosophy, expressing the mental side of running through color, messaging, and accessories rather than hardware.
Running brands talk about mental toughness constantly, but it’s usually framed as pushing through pain. Nike’s framing is about balance, recovery, and the quieter work that surrounds training.
