When athletes consume the same fuel for hours, they start wanting it less, even if the flavor is mild. The phenomenon is called sensory-specific satiety, or flavor fatigue, and it can cause athletes to fall short of their carb targets late in long efforts.
Swedish endurance fuel brand Maurten has built its system around a neutral taste profile for nearly a decade. Additions, the brand’s newest launch, lets athletes vary that taste without changing how the fuel performs.
Additions are single-serving flavor sachets designed to combat flavor fatigue. The sachets mix into a 500ml bottle of Drink Mix 320, 160, or 320 Caf 100 and come in apple, cola, menthol, and orange, with just two ingredients: maltodextrin and natural flavor. Each sachet adds 1.6 to 1.9 grams of carbs and 7 to 8 calories, which is low enough that it won’t affect the carb count of your fueling plan.
Hydrogel Technology is the system Maurten uses to deliver carbs efficiently during exercise: the fuel forms a hydrogel in the stomach, helping the body absorb high-carb loads without GI distress. Additions were engineered to be compatible with that system, and all sachets are Informed Sport tested and vegan.
Palatability is one of the practical factors that determine whether athletes hit their carb targets in real-world conditions. When fuel stops tasting good, athletes drink less of it. This means servings get skipped, and carb intake drops below the plan. For long-course triathletes, ultra and trail runners, and anyone in a training block where Drink Mix is a daily constant, that gap can affect performance. Additions are Maurten’s response to that pattern.
Maurten Additions are available now at maurten.com. Boxes contain six sachets in a single flavor. Through December 31, 2026, every Drink Mix purchase comes with a free box included.
