Most prenatal vitamins are formulated as one-size-fits-all supplements to take through pregnancy. The months before conception, when egg quality, hormonal balance, and nutrient stores set the foundation for a healthy pregnancy, typically don’t get a formula of their own. Doctors increasingly recommend supplementing earlier, especially since many women enter pregnancy already deficient in folate, iron, and other nutrients critical to those early weeks. By the time a pregnancy test reads positive, key developmental milestones like neural tube formation are already underway.
New York-based maternal health brand HealthyBaby is reframing prenatal care with a relaunched four-formula system that begins before conception and continues through the fourth trimester. Our Prenatal includes Preconception & First Trimester, Second Trimester, Third Trimester, and 4th Trimester, with each formula split into morning and night doses.
Each formula contains 27 essential nutrients, with 12 of those adjusting in dose or form by phase. Compared to most prenatals which deliver everything in a single dose, Our Prenatal doses are split between morning and night. This may help maintain steadier nutrient levels, ease nausea, and prevent minerals like iron and zinc from interfering with each other in the same capsule.
Preconception & First Trimester leads with inositol (vitamin B8), which most prenatals leave out. Inositol supports hormonal balance and insulin sensitivity, contributes to ovulation and egg quality during preconception, and may help reduce the risk of gestational diabetes and neural tube defects in the first trimester.

A targeted formula for the 2nd trimester.
The Second and Third Trimester formula adjusts to what the body needs at each stage, with iron getting heavier emphasis in the third trimester. Roughly half of women enter pregnancy already iron deficient, and demand rises further as blood volume increases to deliver oxygen to the growing baby.
The 4th Trimester formula is designed to raise DHA and EPA significantly, to 650 and 1,000 milligrams per day, to support the postpartum period. DHA and EPA support mood and inflammation regulation in the postpartum window, and DHA passes through breastmilk to support the baby’s developing brain, eyes, and nervous system.
All four formulas use natural folate (5-MTHF) instead of synthetic folic acid, which not everyone can convert efficiently.
HealthyBaby tests every formula for heavy metals at both the raw ingredient and finished product stage, and discloses every ingredient on packaging. HealthyBaby’s Chief Innovation Officer, Hilary Swank, lobbied for California SB 646, signed into law in October 2025, which now requires all prenatal vitamin companies to test for heavy metals and disclose results.
Our Prenatal was developed with prenatal nutrition researcher Dr. James Adams and the Neurological Health Foundation, informed by more than 350 peer-reviewed studies, and grounded in the National Academy of Sciences’ Recommended Dietary Allowances and CDC nutrition survey data.
